Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - for Gamecube |
I was excited about getting this game. I had seen the commercials and thought, "Wow, that looks cool."
Boy was I let down. The gameplay - This game was so predictable. Solve a puzzle, then fight some monsters. Over and over and over. The fight sequences were drug out and laboriously long. There was one good thing about the long fights though... The chance to use all the cool fighting techniques. That was a large plus for me. The chaos of a fight, with random enemies appearing out of nowhere made for a challenging fight. The ability to freeze enemies was convenient when brought into a tight situation. Slow motion fighting seemed to be somewhat unfair, that you could get attacks off better than your enemy. If you're slowed down too, shouldn't you have the same handicap as your opponent... just a thought. Otherwise, i loved the fight sequences. The Puzzles were quite simple, a ten year old may have had trouble, but not that much. The controls - The basic controller set up for this game was very friendly. I only had to change the C-pad camera control to uninverted. That was personnal preference. Inverted camera controls are not my favorite things. Every once in a while I would drop off a cliff in the sheer confusiong of hitting the X button instead of the A. Maybe the were to close together, or maybe im just rather silly when it comes to hitting the correct buttons. The cinematics - If you're going to be disappointed with the gameplay. The least the developers could have done for us, would be to make awesomee cinematics.... They didn't do that here. The cinematics were sparce, if you don't include the visions. Also the cinematics just didn't seem to great. More attention to fine detail could have been used. I was only impressed by the Bath scene near the end. The visions were in black and white, and were only clues to your next puzzle. Not too impressive. Or maybe DOA has just made me set my standards to high for cinematics. Conclusion - I beat this game in 3 days. My recommendation is that you should rent this game. I know it will be a long time before i want to play this a game again. So unless you just really love simple games, rent this game, its not worth the fifty bucks its priced at now. Maybe when it comes down to about thirty or twenty bucks it'll be worth investing in a copy. Ta-ta. |
